Demolition and Remediation of former Industrial Ceramics Plant
This contract covered a wide range of operations including:
· Demolition;
· Asbestos Removal;
· Underground Tank Removal;
· Bio-Remediation;
· Japanese Knotweed Removal;
· Crushing;
· Site Remediation;
· Re-grade;
The site contained just about every problem imaginable, but the extensive pre-contract S.I. had highlighted the vast majority.
Although the presence of underground structures was foreseen, their vast nature and volume was not.
Some extended to 8 metres below lower ground level, (the site was shelved on two levels), and one slurry mixing vessel resembled an Olympics-sized swimming pool.
In total some 12,000m3 of substructure materials were removed, processed, crushed and re-laid.
The new access road ran straight through a previously tipped spoil heap containing 6,000m3 of sub-soil contaminated by Japanese Knotweed.
A large proportion of this was carted off-site, with the remainder being placed in a Sterile Quarantine Area for experimental chemical treatment.
The buildings were varying both in size and nature, and we were able to reclaim 20,000+ bricks, 12,000+ slates/tiles, acres of T & G boarding and 3 medium sized portal framed buildings.
The remainder of the hard materials were crushed on site and used in the extensive re-grade.
