ADVANTICA
Footbridge Removal

This project involved the controlled demolition of a modern steel link bridge between two fully operational buildings at the Advantica National Gas Research Centre in Loughborough.

The works had to be strategically planned in order to minimise the potential impact from noise, dust and vibration, as the buildings housed some extremely sensitive scientific research equipment.

After permanently sealing off the bridge at both ends, the structure was de-roofed, de-glazed and had all non-structural elements removed.

A dual-crane operation was then performed, and the bridge was cut and removed in a sequence which was pre-determined by a structural engineer.

One 180 tonne and one 120 tonne crane were used in tandem to execute the lifting.
